The main aim of this summer internship is to support undergraduate students globally who are keen on a career in biology. It provides an eight-week research experience in biomedical science, where students can work alongside prominent faculty and acquire hands-on research skills under the guidance of dedicated professors across various graduate schools.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be undergraduate students from institutions offering bachelor’s degrees, primarily from the Asia region.
  • Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies by the program’s start.
  • Should have at least one semester or quarter remaining after the program ends and should not graduate before the program begins.
  • Must have a strong academic record and an interest in pursuing a research degree, such as a Ph.D.
  • English proficiency is required, with minimum test scores as follows:
    • TOEFL iBT: 72
    • IELTS: 5.5 overall band
    • Cambridge English FCE
    • TOEIC: 1095 total (785 for L&R and 310 for S&W)

Application Process 

  1. Register on the TAO portal with your full legal name.
  2. Locate the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program in the portal and begin the application.
  3. Upload required documents.
  4. Request two recommendation letters through TAO, with one from a faculty member.
  5. Complete all sections; no edits are allowed after submission.
  6. Applications are reviewed from February to mid-March, with notifications sent via TAO and email.
