Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2024 is a Canadian initiative aimed at empowering and educating international students by teaching them Canadian research methods and techniques. This 12-week program allows interns to work under the supervision of Canadian university professors in various fields, including science, engineering, math, humanities, and social sciences. The fully-funded internship also offers opportunities for interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects, allowing students to explore both specific and general research categories.
The internship is available at nearly 70 universities across Canada, with support from international academic partners such as Universities Australia, Brazil’s Araucaria Foundation, the China Scholarship Council, and others. These partners contribute their ideas and expertise to the program.
This top internship in Canada provides a platform for students from different universities to collaborate on research projects. The internship offers life-changing opportunities, enabling students to build a global network through the Mitacs Globalink alumni community. For example, a Harvard student worked with Queen’s University to design an instrument for rapid screening of Lyme disease pathogens, while researchers from the University of Alberta and Yukon University collaborated with mining companies to restore vegetation in Yukon mines.
The Global Research Internship is highly competitive, attracting talented researchers from around the world. Its main goal is to build connections between Canada and emerging global research talent. During their stay in Canada, interns can attend industry and government events, as well as professional development courses, helping them expand their knowledge and skills. Studies show that 95% of past interns speak positively about the program’s impact. Alumni interested in returning to Canada for further studies may be eligible for the Globalink Graduate Fellowship.
