Fellowship Duration

  • Program length: Minimum of 2 weeks, maximum of 52 weeks.
  • In-Australia requirement: At least 2 weeks of fellowship activities must take place in Australia.
  • Partner country activities: These must start within 4 months of completing fellowship activities in Australia.

Scholarship Benefits 

  • Maximum Funding: Up to $34,500 per fellow

    • Travel (including return airfare to Australia and in-country travel)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be from an eligible country.
  • Must not be a permanent resident of Australia.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in the fellowship.
  • Active-duty military members are not eligible.
  • Must meet all Department of Home Affairs requirements for a student visa (subclass 500).
  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Applicants must be able to travel without family members as DFAT will only provide visa support for fellows, not their families.
