Germany HZDR Summer Student Program 2025 | Funded

Applications are now open for the Germany HZDR Summer Student Program 2025. This program offers senior university students from around the world, specializing in natural sciences and related fields, a chance to join HZDR research groups and actively participate in ongoing projects.

Students will work closely with experienced researchers who will design a tailored project plan, provide supervision, and mentor them throughout the program. In addition to hands-on research, participants can attend selected lectures and lab tours, gaining insights into various branches of the research center. This unique combination of activities fosters a comprehensive understanding of scientific exploration and innovation.

The program aims to advance international and interdisciplinary scientific research, emphasizing the power of integrative and collaborative knowledge. HZDR’s research covers a wide range of topics in physical and life sciences, focusing on both fundamental studies and applied technology development.

Eligible Candidate 

If you are interested in applying for the summer students program, please check that you fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be a university student in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields.
  • Stay enrolled at your university from July to September 2025.
  • Complete at least 3 years of university studies (Bachelor’s degree or proof needed) by summer 2025.
  • Show good grades and provide a professor’s recommendation letter.
  • Have strong English skills to join all program activities.
  • Master’s degree holders, PhD students, or past HZDR interns (within a year) cannot apply.
  • Not eligible if you’re between degrees (e.g., finished Bachelor’s but not yet enrolled in a Master’s).

How to Apply for the Summer Student Program

  1. Fill Application Form
    • Upload your CV and personal details.
    • Confirm:
      • Enrollment as a university student from July–September 2025.
      • Completion of at least three years of university studies by July 1, 2025.
      • If you’ll have a Bachelor’s degree by July 1, 2025.
    • Provide your GPA (convert to a 0–4 scale if needed).
    • Add details: study start year, field, university name/address, and recommending professor (a recommendation letter is mandatory).
  2. Time Period
    • Be available for 6–9 weeks.
    • Attendance during calendar weeks 31–35 is required.
  3. Research Topic
    • Rank preferred research fields. Excluding too many fields may lower acceptance chances.
  4. Work Type
    • Choose between experimental, theoretical, or both (programming included).
  5. Research Interest (Optional)
    • Specify interests if any, but placement in those fields isn’t guaranteed.
  6. Travel Expenses
    • Confirm you’ll cover travel costs to/from Dresden.

Prepare Documents

Ensure all documents are in English or have an English translation.

Upload Process:

    • Any additional required documents.

Recommendation Letter:

  • Press “Finish” to get a link for your professor/scientist to upload the letter.
  • Ensure the letter is submitted before the deadline, or your application won’t be considered.
